Where are you located?

As of November 1st 2018 we have two locations within 800m of each other:

The East clinic is conveniently located between Spadina and Stirling Roads, seconds from St. Mary’s Hospital.

The West clinic is in the white building at the lights at the corner of Highland West and West Ave – you need to use the entrance on the side of the building with the wooden staircase (our sign is right beside the stairs).

Both clinics are on the GRT #16 bus route.

A map of each location is under ‘contact’ on this website

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes. We have reserved this spot for you. A minimum of 24 hours is required to change or cancel. Without this notice or if you do not show up for your appointment, the full cost of your appointment will apply.

This fee is not eligible to be submitted to your insurance. Please understand that without proper notice your appointment time cannot be refilled.

Do I need to get undressed?

That’s up to you. Swedish Massage techniques work best when applied with some form of lotion applied directly to the skin. If, however, you are in any way not comfortable removing your clothing we will never insist.

Your comfort and privacy are very important to us. We will ask that you undress only to the level you are comfortable. The sheets on the table are strategically placed while we work so only the area being addressed is uncovered.

I am interested in Cupping Therapy. Is this offered?

Yes! Julie Shawano, RMT offers Cupping to her clients based on her assessment of whether it would be beneficial to them. If you would like to talk about the benefits or try it, please book an appointment with Julie online using the “Book Online” link.

Just because you book with Julie does not mean you are obligated to have this treatment but she is the Therapist who offers Cupping.

What should I expect during my visit?

Prior to arriving for your first visit we ask that you fill out the intake forms so that your Therapist can have a chance to review it ahead of time.  The link to these forms is found in the email you received when you booked the appointment as well as any reminder emails you may receive.

These forms, plus a brief private intake, help the Therapist assess your situation and determine the best and safest treatment for you.

You have full control over what areas of the body will be addressed at each and every visit and you will discuss your treatment goals with your Therapist upon arrival.

Is it safe to have a massage during pregnancy?

For most women, having a massage during pregnancy is safe and in fact beneficial. There are some cases where your doctor/midwife will restrict your activity level which also means there is a restriction on getting a massage. If you have been classified as a “high(er) risk” or if you’re uncertain, check with your primary caregiver.

We have the Body Cushion system which allows for the most comfort possible during your massage. These cushions create a hole for your expanding belly that can allow you to safely lie face down and it expands to accommodate you until full term. Your Therapist will assess whether or not lying face down is appropriate, sidelying may be a better option.

When booking an appointment, please mention how many weeks along you will be at the time of your visit to help us prepare properly. When booking online, you must select “Massage Therapy for pregnancy”.

Do my benefits cover Massage Therapy?

If you have benefits that cover Massage Therapy it requires treatment by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). Our Therapists are all Registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.
Both locations can direct bill to over 20 insurance companies with some restrictions.  Please see the complete list on this page

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Maybe. As a therapist we do not necessarily need you to see your doctor prior to visiting our clinic (some exceptions apply). In some cases your extended health care plan may require a doctor’s referral to refund your money even with the direct billing.

If you are doing direct billing, please make sure your doctor’s note has been received by your benefit company and processed prior to your visit with us.

My benefits have run out, can I use my partner’s benefits?

Yes, if you are on your partner’s plan, you can use their benefits. The way insurance works is that you must use up your benefits first and then your partner’s plan kicks in. If you have a deductible on your plan, you can submit the unpaid portion to their plan for reimbursement.

What you may not do is ask us to submit a claim, or give you a receipt under your partner’s name for your visit – that is insurance fraud. All visits must be billed under the person’s name who was treated on the date of the visit.

How do payments work?

At the end of every appointment you will pay for your massage and we will give you a detailed receipt. If you have benefits through your employer that cover Massage Therapy you may submit this receipt to be reimbursed.

Some benefits companies can be billed directly from our office.
See this post for accepted forms of payment.

What benefit companies can you bill to?

We also offer billing to your extended health benefits company if you are with:

  • Blue Cross (Ontario and Alberta)
  • Canadian Construction Workers Union
  • Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance
  • Claim Secure
  • Co-operators
  • Cowan
  • Desjardins (payment always goes to the plan member)
  • Empire Life
  • Equitable Life (with difficulty)
  • First Canadian
  • Great West Life
  • GroupHEALTH
  • GroupSource
  • Green Shield
  • Industrial Alliance
  • Johnson Inc.
  • Johnston Group Inc
  • LiUNA Local 183
  • LiUNA Local 506
  • Nexgen Rx
  • Manion
  • Manulife Financial **
  • Maximum Benefit
  • OTIP **
  • RWAM
  • SSQ
  • Sunlife Financial
** Currently Thomas and Christina cannot bill to Manulife/OTIP because of difficulty with their accounts.  This is a problem on the Manulife/OTIP side, nothing to do with the Therapist. You can still be reimbursed after seeing them but you have to pay for your visit **
We accept cash and debit for payments of deductibles or where insurance isn’t available/accepted. While we do also accept Visa and Mastercard, due to high processing fees, we would appreciate the use of cash or debit where possible.  We do not accept cheques as a form of payment

Please note that each policy is set up differently based on how your employer arranged it. Some policies don’t allow for us to bill electronically (ie Federal employees), some allow us to submit the claim but not receive direct payment (it can only go to you) and others have different restrictions.

We can only work with how your employer has set up the policy but will explain it to you as we receive notification from the benefit company. We cannot tell you in advance if your payment will be accepted or not, sorry!

Co-ordination of benefits is not yet available through the billing system.

Please always bring a form of payment (i.e. debit) to your visit. Sometimes your benefit payment will go to you, not us, in which case you will have to pay us at the time of your visit.

If your policy requires a doctor’s note for coverage, it must be submitted and processed by your benefit company before we can do any direct billing.  We do not need to see your doctor’s note.

Who do you treat at this clinic?

If you are between 5 and 100 and suffer from pain related to injury, overuse or stress we may be able to help.
We have multiple booking options depending on your situation.  For example, children should be booked under “Children (<age 16)”, and pregnant women under “Pregnancy Massage”.  Otherwise just choose the appropriate length of Registered Massage Therapy visit.
Please note though that we do have several stairs leading to and from the clinic as well as in the clinic itself.

I would like to purchase a gift certificate. How do I do it?

Simply click the button below to purchase a gift certificate for massage therapy. You will be taken to a secured and encrypted site where you may pay by visa/mastercard.
We do not sell gift certificates at the clinic.
You may choose to have the gift certificate emailed to yourself or the recipient. You may add a message of your choice before sending. The gift certificate needs to be presented on paper when being redeemed and is valid at either location with any RMT.

How do I book an appointment?

New and returning clients are encouraged to book a massage appointment online by clicking the button below.

Please read our profiles ("About Us") to see if one Therapist may be a preference.

I would like to speak with an RMT…

Our phones are forwarded off-site so you cannot reach any of us directly by phone, but if you send us an email with your contact information, we can call you and are happy to do so.  Email works wonderfully – see “Contact Us“.  If you call, please leave a message and someone will return your call in 24 business hours.

Which location is my appointment at?

We now have two locations with several RMTs at each.  When you book an appointment online, beside each Therapist’s name is “EAST” or “WEST” and that tells you which clinic they work at.

When you receive your confirmation and reminder emails, the details are also on those emails so please read it fully.
A map to each location is on this website under ‘contact’, but exact directions are in the email you receive when you book the appointment.
